Each time you break my heart.

Noi continuiamo indegnamente a indossare i Levi’s 501, ricordando Nick Kamen.

We cannot believe that Nick Kamen is dead, at only 59 years of age. We realise that his name says absolutely nothing to anyone under 40, so it’s unlikely that Nick Kamen will be part of any trends. This is also because his role as an eighties icon is basically linked to three situations: the Levi’s 501 ad, his friendship with Madonna and Each time you break my heart. Although we particularly love I promised myself, written by him, and Loving you is sweater than ever, which was a cover of an old Stevie Wonder song.

The 1985 Levi’s commercial, which is very famous, saw the then British model enter a laundromat, taking off his jeans and arousing a certain admiration in the female audience: 1950s imagery and music, which was the 1980s today. The emblem of a lost optimism and innocence, the pure heart even of those who (like us for the 1950s) had not lived through them. The commercial brought him planetary fame, the friendship of Madonna and an introduction to the world of music.

He played his cards well, debuting with an excellent album of soulful covers, and then proposing some successful new songs. Such as Each Time You Break My Heart, written by Madonna herself and released in 1986, which remains her biggest commercial success, even though Kamen made six albums in total before disappearing completely from the scene. A regular presence in beautiful Italian summers, from Festivalbar to Saint Vincent Estate, and also a guest at Sanremo, Nick Kamen, despite being straight (his nights at the Hollywood with Tatjana Patitz were legendary), was also a gay icon. Nick Kamen was one of the most beautiful guys of the most beautiful decade in the history of mankind. We unworthily continue to wear Levi’s 501s, remembering Nick Kamen.
