Stakhovsky contro Netflix

Tutti hanno scritto di Sergiy Stakhovsky che si è arruolato nei riservisti dell’Ucraina, per dare concretamente il suo contributo contro l’invasore straniero, in questo caso russo. Una scelta che non sposterà le sorti della guerra, lo stesso tennista ha spiegato di non avere alcun passato di tipo militare, ma che è un atto di coraggio e al tempo stesso di accusa contro chi non farebbe guerre nemmeno per difendere la propria, di patria.

I giorni migliori del trentaseienne Stakhovsky sono passati, ma stiamo parlando di un tennista ancora in attività (ha giocato le qualificazioni degli ultimi Australian Open), che in carriera ha guadagnato 5 milioni di dollari di solo prize money ufficiale dei tornei, quindi è verosimile che abbia un patrimonio di almeno il doppio. Insomma, tennista vecchio ma uomo giovane e con metà della vita davanti, dalle dichiarazioni tutt’altro che un estremista guerrafondaio. Eppure…

Eppure, quanti di noi che stiamo bene, anzi benissimo, e che siamo turbati solo per le interpretazioni del VAR si arruolerebbero nel caso l’Italia venisse invasa da un esercito straniero? Quanti dei diciottenni con la kefiah che vanno alle manifestazioni dell’ANPI? Quante teste rasate con tatuaggi nazisti o di corpi speciali? Quanti dei patrioti convinti che fosse un sacrificio stare a casa davanti a Netflix eseguendo gli ordini di Speranza?

Non sono considerazioni anti-italiane, perché pensiamo che in mezza Europa la pancia del paese, nemmeno le cattivissime élite, preferirebbe farsi i fatti propri mandando in prima linea i figli degli altri. I numeri reali degli arruolati di Salò e dei partigiani dicono del resto proprio questo, in un’epoca senza streaming. Poi ci sono paesi, anche civilizzati, anche cristiani, dove ancora si concepisce che alla prepotenza si debba reagire. Paesi come l’Ucraina. Per Stakhovky una vittoria più importante di quella su Federer a Wimbledon, anche se dal divano gli auguriamo di non dover sparare un colpo.

In short, he is an old tennis player but a young man with half his life ahead of him, with statements that are anything but extremist warmongering. And yet…

And yet, how many of us who are well, or rather very well, and who are only upset by the VAR interpretations would enlist if Italy were invaded by a foreign army? How many 18-year-olds wearing keffiyehs go to ANPI rallies? How many shaved heads with Nazi or special forces tattoos? How many patriots convinced that it was a sacrifice to sit at home in front of Netflix following Speranza’s orders?

These are not anti-Italian considerations, because we think that in half of Europe the belly of the country, not even the bad elites, would prefer to mind their own business by sending other people’s sons to the front line. The actual numbers of Salò enlistees and partisans say exactly that, in an age without streaming. Then there are countries, even civilised and Christian countries, where people still believe that bullying should be responded to. Countries like Ukraine. For Stakhovky, this is a more important victory than the one over Federer at Wimbledon, even if from his couch we wish him not to have to fire a shot.
