Zeppieri-Seppi, preview e scommesse

La partita fra Giulio Zeppieri, numero 215 ATP, e Andreas Seppi, 137, oggi alle 16 nel primo turno delle qualificazioni per il tabellone principale del Roland Garros, è piena di spunti interessanti e giustifica pienamente l’abbonamento a Discovery+ (peraltro noi ci colleghiamo ancora dal vecchio Eurosport Player). Il tema principale è scontato: il giovane emergente contro l’ottimo professionista a fine carriera.

Zeppieri l’abbiamo appena visto contro Khachanov a Roma e come tenuta fisica ci sembra migliorato rispetto a quando veniva considerato il gemello diverso di Musetti (pochi mesi di differenza di età e tanti doppi insieme). Buon servizio e buon diritto, un rovescio un po’ soft e comunque tanto tempo per migliorare. Non crediamo possa raggiungere il livello di Musetti anche se il suo diritto mancino può dare fastidio a tanti, come si vede già nei challenger.

Di Seppi si sa ovviamente tutto, anche che non ha ancora giocato nel 2022 un match sulla terra, forse a causa della nascita del secondo figlio. Grandissima stima per lui, siamo convinti che diventerà un grande allenatore, però a 38 anni ci sembra al capolinea. La quota di Zeppieri è onesta, quindi punteremo 110 euro su Zeppieri a 1,46, per vincerne 50,2 o perderne 110.

The match between Giulio Zeppieri and Andreas Seppi, today at 4 p.m. in the first round of the qualifying for the main draw at Roland Garros, is full of interesting points and fully justifies the Discovery+ subscription (we still connect from the old Eurosport Player, by the way). The main theme is a foregone conclusion: the young up-and-comer versus the excellent pro at the end of his career.

We have just seen Zeppieri against Khachanov in Rome, and in terms of physical fitness he seems to us to have improved compared to when he was considered Musetti’s different twin (a few months’ difference in age and many doubles together). Good serve and good forehand, a somewhat soft backhand and plenty of time to improve. We don’t think he can reach even Musetti’s level, although his left-handed forehand can bother many.

Of course we know everything about Seppi, even that he has not yet played a clay court match in 2022, perhaps because of the birth of his second child. We have great respect for him, we are convinced that he will become a great coach, but at 38 he seems to be at the end of his rope. Zeppieri’s odds are fair, so we will bet 110 euros on Zeppieri at 1.46, to win 50.2 or lose 110.
