The match between Casper Ruud, number 8 ATP, and Holger Rune, number 40, in the quarter-finals at Roland Garros, is very interesting, not because of the Norwegian’s solidity, seen and overlooked, but because the 19-year-old Dane also plays like a predestined player in his adult career, after having been number 1 at junior level. A great baseline attacker, made and finished for clay court, Rune has so far lost to Ruud three times out of three, even though he came close to winning in the recent Monte Carlo.

As anyone who follows us knows (profitably, he must admit), we look at the matches rather than the statistics, going for what we consider to be the wrong odds: we lose matches, but we try to win championships. Rune against Tsitsipas made an almost Alcaraz-like impression on us (he will never become like the Spaniard, though, having less hand) and against a Ruud who has so far done his underdog but not at the level of asking his opponent for his autograph.

Similar characteristics and therefore the more experienced player, a recent semi-finalist in Rome, should win, but Rune is on a bubble and we want to reward his odds. Our bet is therefore 30 euros on Rune winning at 2.90 to win 57 or lose 30. Of course a semi-final of his in Paris would make his mother-manager Aneke and sister Alma, his tennis model as a child, very happy (yes, it is an excuse to publish a photo of her).
