Milano, Coria contro Elias

Non abbiamo mai giocato sui campi di Wimbledon, ma lo abbiamo fatto su quelli dell’Harbour Club di Milano (anche se la nostra importante carriera l’abbiamo costruita al Kennedy e al Tennis Corvetto) dove fra qualche ora Federico Coria affronterà Gastão Elias nei quarti di finale di un challenger che ha visto annate con partecipazione molto più qualificata. Il fratellino del più famoso Guillermo è nato a Rosario ma è troppo concreto per essere oggetto di narrazione alla Trinche Carlovich: pur avendo la classifica per entrare in tabellone a Wimbledon (al primo turno giocherà contro Galan) ha rinunciato totalmente alla preparazione sull’erba per dedicarsi al circuito estivo sulla terra e fare quindi classifica.

Per questo contro il portoghese sarà al 100%, senza guardare troppo avanti. Elias pur essendogli lontano come ranking ATP (245 contro 89) gli è in teoria vicino come potenziale, ma in questa fase della sua carriera sta facendo attività quasi soltanto vicino a casa ed è in ogni caso inferiore a Coria. Partita fra pedalatori, anche se con uno stile diverso: Coria prova sempre a costruire il punto mentre Elias, che ama più il cemento della terra, fa di tutto per costruirsi la sbracciata di diritto, spostandosi anche oltre la logica. Partita non scontata, ma l’1,77 di Coria è una eccellente quota e ci mettiamo 100 euro.

We have never played on the courts of Wimbledon, but we have done so on those of the Harbour Club in Milan where in a few hours Federico Coria will face Gastão Elias in the quarter-finals of a challenger which has seen years with much more qualified participation. The little brother of the more famous Guillermo was born in Rosario but is too concrete to be the subject of Trinche Carlovich-style narratives: despite having the ranking to enter the Wimbledon draw (in the first round he will play against Galan) he has given up grass training altogether to devote himself to the summer circuit on clay and thus build up a ranking.

For this reason, he will be at 100% against the Portuguese, without looking too far ahead. Although Elias is far from him in terms of ATP ranking (245 against 89), he is theoretically close to him in terms of potential, but in this phase of his career he is practising almost only close to home and is in any case inferior to Coria. A match between players with a different style: Coria always tries to build up the point while Elias, who loves hard more than clay, does everything to build up his forehand, even moving beyond logic. It’s not a foregone conclusion but Coria’s 1.77 is an excellent price and we’ll put 100 euros on it.
