Medvedev-Gasquet, preview e scommesse

Grande attesa per il ritorno in campo di Daniil Medvedev, numero 2 ATP, contro Richard Gasquet, numero 75, negli ottavi di finale del torneo di Ginevra, oggi alle 18. L’ultima apparizione del russo è stata un mese e mezzo fa a Miami, contro Hurkacz: per lui esordio stagionale sulla terra battuta, dopo l’operazione (ernia) e le polemiche per l’assurda esclusione da Wimbledon: vicenda peraltro con ancora qualche capitolo da scrivere. Per il francese e invece è già il sesto torneo e nessuno dei precedenti ha avuto acuti.

Nemmeno al 100% il vincitore degli ultimi US Open ha mai fatto grandissime cose su questa superficie, però sta lavorando in prospettiva Roland Garros, dove l’anno scorso è arrivato ai quarti contro Tsitsipas, e di sicuro ha bisogno di almeno un paio di partite per riprendere il ritmo: tecnicamente lui è nato per il cemento o come si chiama oggi (Deco Turf e simili), ma la cilindrata è superiore. Quanto a Gasquet, a 36 anni non ha ancora la testa dell’ex e la sua attività è più che dignitosa, ma l’autonomia è sempre più limitata e quelli veri non li batte più da tanto.

Crediamo quindi che un Medvedev in condizioni accettabili sia più favorito di quanto dicano le quote, che tengono conto anche del nome dell’avversario. La nostra scommessa di oggi è quindi questa: 130 euro su Medvedev vincente a 1,39, per vincere 50,7 euro o perderne 130.

There are great expectations for the return of Daniil Medvedev, ATP number 2, against Richard Gasquet, number 75, in the round of 16 of the Geneva tournament, today at 6 pm. The Russian’s last appearance was a month and a half ago in Miami, against Hurkacz: for him, it was his season debut on clay, after the operation (hernia) and the controversy over the absurd exclusion from Wimbledon: an affair that still has some chapters to write. For the Frenchman, on the other hand, this is already the sixth tournament and none of the previous ones have had any highlights.

Not even 100 per cent the winner of the last US Open has ever done great things on this surface, but he is working towards Roland Garros, where last year he reached the quarters against Tsitsipas, and he certainly needs at least a couple of matches to get back into rhythm: technically he was born for cement or whatever it is called today (Deco Turf and the like), but the displacement is superior. As for Gasquet, at 36 he still doesn’t have the head of the ex and his activity is more than decent, but his range is increasingly limited and he hasn’t beaten real ones for a long time.

We therefore believe that a Medvedev in acceptable condition is more of a favourite than the odds, which also take into account the opponent’s name. Our bet today is therefore this: 130 euros on Medvedev winning at 1.39, to win 50.7 euros or lose 130.
