Il ritorno di Tom Brady

Tom Brady dopo un mese e mezzo ci ha ripensato: ancora per una stagione non lascerà il football giocato e quindi tornerà in campo con i Tampa Bay Buccaneers. È bello pensare che lo abbia ispirato Cristiano Ronaldo, visto che Brady era all’Old Trafford per la partita fra Manchester United e Tottenham, risolta da tre gol di CR7, tre gol davvero cazzuti, che poi a fine partita ha anche scambiato qualche parola con il vincitore di 7 Super Bowl.

Chi legge Indiscreto da anni, ma anche soltanto da giorni (mettiamo un tifoso della Virtus Bologna) sa già come la pensiamo: finché c’è qualcuno che ti paga e che ti guarda meglio giocarsi la vita in campo, senza gli orridi compromessi delle esistenze normali. Brady penoso? Ibrahimovic penoso? Buffon penoso? Dipende dalle alternative e da quanto gli frega delle alternative, perché fare l’imprenditore con l’aura dello sportivo è una cosa, farla da ex un’altra.

Per farla breve: Brady, al quale Roberto Gotta ha dedicato uno dei libri più belli della storia di Indiscreto (Il mondo di Tom Brady – Football e vita di un’icona americana), baciato anche dal successo, a 45 anni tornerà in campo per la sua ventitreesima stagione NFL. Solo football, non conta che Brady sia l’unico personaggio di questo sport conosciuto anche dalla sciura Maria (due settimane fa il nuovo Oggi diretto da Carlo Verdelli, che ha cambiato target, ha parlato del libro…), mentre il marketing sarebbe venuto meglio con un ritiro in bellezza.

Certo non tutti sono uguali, visto che negli stessi Buccaneers si è appena ritirato Ali Marpet, centro e soprattutto ventinovenne: abbiamo letto che è stanco del football e che qualche decina di milioni di dollari sono sufficienti, tutto qui. Brady o Marpet? Chi saremmo noi, potendo scegliere?

Those who have been reading Indiscreet for years, or even just days (let’s say a Virtus Bologna fan) already know what we think: as long as there is someone who pays you and watches you, it is better to play your life on the field, without the horrible compromises of normal lives. Brady miserable? Ibrahimovic miserable? Buffon miserable? It depends on the alternatives and how much he cares about the alternatives, because being an entrepreneur with the aura of a sportsman is one thing, being an ex another.

To cut a long story short: Brady, to whom Roberto Gotta has dedicated one of the best books in the history of Indiscreto (The World of Tom Brady – Football and the Life of an American Icon), also blessed with success, will be back on the field at 45 for his 23rd NFL season. Only football, it doesn’t matter that Brady is the only character of this sport also known by the sciura Maria (a fortnight ago the new Oggi directed by Carlo Verdelli, who has changed target audience, talked about the book…), while the marketing would have been better with a retirement in beauty.

Of course, not everyone is the same, since the Buccaneers have just retired Ali Marpet, a 29-year-old centre: we’ve read that he’s tired of football and that a few tens of millions of dollars are enough, that’s all. Brady or Marpet? Who would we be, given the choice?
