Djokovic No Vax o soltanto libero

The collective journalist against Novak Djokovic, who will be at the start of the Australian Open that begins in 12 days, in pursuit of his tenth victory in the tournament and his twenty-first Slam, to overtake Federer and Nadal at least in terms of statistics. The medical exemption from the anti-Covid vaccination, which in Australia concerns a few, limited cases that are then assessed by two different commissions (and neither has anything to do with sport), will therefore allow him to take to the field. This does not mean that the world number one has not been vaccinated, although it is likely that he has, but only that he does not want to be required to certify it.

The point, however, is not this, but that the authorisation to play in Melbourne came from the state medical-political authorities and not from the organisers of the first Slam of the year or from any sporting entity with the waffling interest of having the last of the three greats to be him at the start, given that Federer has rightly (at his age) disappeared and Nadal, between injuries and reduced training by Covid (positive last 20 December), should be half a Nadal.

Note that Australia since long before the Covid era has always been very strict about any diseases brought in from abroad by people and animals, as well as immigration in general (which has nothing to do with Djokovic). If there were no valid reasons for the exemption why lose face over such a cover case?

The mainstream media’s problem is obviously not with Australian medical exemptions, but with the few champions who don’t conform to mainstream thinking. Thinking beings like Djokovic, who may think wrongly but still don’t let themselves be guided only by mere interest because with these at least critical positions Djokovic in commercial terms is worth much less than before.

We have in any case arrived at the point that in order to express some criticism of the political, not even medical, management of the Covid emergency, one must specify that one is vaccinated (here we are, tomorrow morning third dose Pfizer) and in any case afraid, with a face of circumstance. So the problem is not that Djokovic is No Vax (he and his wife Jelena had Covid last year and changed their opinion a little), but that he is free to say what he thinks about politics and even about the organisation of world tennis. Quite a difference with fellow goats, particularly two of them.
